Christian IV's reign produced an unusually large volume of skilling coinage across multiple denominations, but the 1624–1625 issues coincide with a period of aggressive monetary reform as Denmark attempted to stabilize exchange rates against Holstein and Lübeck coinage flooding the domestic market. The 12 skilling sat at a politically sensitive value — high enough to matter in daily commerce, low enough to circulate hard.
KM#91 is known with minor die variations across the two-year run, a predictable consequence of Copenhagen's minting pace during this period.
