Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of King James II facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed long flowing wig cascading to the shoulder. The effigy is executed in the restrained Baroque style characteristic of late Stuart royal portraiture. The circumferential legend reads IACOBUS·II·DEI·GRATIA· in raised Roman capitals, separated by pellets, running clockwise from the lower left. The entire design is contained within a finely milled border of small beads.
