Obverse description Draped bust of Count Gustav of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein facing right, wearing a voluminous long-curled allonge wig characteristic of the late 17th-century baroque style, with drapery visible at the truncation. The effigy is rendered in high relief and occupies the majority of the coin's field. A circular Latin legend runs along the full circumference, separated from the design by a beaded inner border.

Reverse description Central field bears a three-line inscription giving the denomination in German, reading XII / MARIEN / GROSCH, with the mintmaster's initials and symbol below where present. The encircling Latin legend incorporates the motto and date, with the date appearing at the conclusion of the legend. The composition is framed by a beaded border and reflects the standard format for late 17th-century German States fractional thaler coinage.
