Obverse description Draped bust of Friedrich II (Frederick the Great) facing right, with powdered wig tied at the nape with a ribbon, rendered in a restrained neoclassical style. The portrait is set within a raised rim, with the royal legend arcing around the periphery. The effigy is uncrowned and unlaureate, presenting a civilian rather than martial image of the king. The legend FRIDERICUS BORUSSORUM REX (Frederick, King of the Prussians) runs along the upper and lateral field.
