Obverse description A large wildman (Wilder Mann), depicted in right profile, grasps a large uprooted tree trunk with both hands; smaller trees are strewn across the ground at his feet. The numeral '12' appears in the field to the left, and the legend NVNQVAM RETRORSVM arcs above in Latin characters, serving as the dynastic motto of the House of Brunswick.
