Obverse description Central field depicts a standing figure of a bishop in full episcopal vestments, facing forward and holding a crozier, set within a beaded inner circle. The date 1601 appears in the field, flanked by the numeral 12 denoting the denomination. The Latin legend MO:NO:EPIC CVRIENSIS S L encircles the design, identifying this as the new money of the Bishopric of Chur. The coin was struck by the hammer technique, resulting in a slightly irregular flan typical of early seventeenth-century ecclesiastical coinage.
