| Obverse description | Flat-shouldered bronze spade money of the Zhao state, cast in the characteristic pointed-foot (jian zu bu) form with a trapezoidal socket at the top and two diverging flat legs terminating in squared feet. A vertical raised line runs centrally down the body of the spade, dividing the field into two panels. Two archaic Chinese ideograms reading right to left, 襄平 (Xiang Ping), are cast in relief within the field, denoting the place of issue. The surface displays an aged patina of olive-brown and malachite green consistent with extended burial. |
