Obverse description Central field dominated by a large, ornately quartered coat of arms incorporating the heraldic devices of Austria, Burgundy, Carinthia, and associated territories, surmounted by an imperial crown. Surrounding the central shield, a complex arrangement of subsidiary escutcheons representing the various dominions of Archduke Ferdinand I fills the field. The entire composition is enclosed by a beaded inner border, with the titulary legend in Latin capitals running along the outer circumference. The hammered flan imparts a characteristic irregular roundness to the coin, consistent with early sixteenth-century Habsburg minting practice.
