Obverse description Central field features a large block letter 'E' — the symbol of Europe — surrounded by a ring of twelve five-pointed stars, evoking the flag of the European Communities. Flanking the central device are two decorative sprigs, one of olive and one of oak, meeting at the base. The date 1976 appears above the central motif. A trilingual peripheral legend in Latin script reads: ELEVENTH THALER OF EUROPE, ELFTER EUROPA TALER, and ONZIEME ÉCU D'EUROPE, separated by bullet points and running around the full circumference of the coin.
