| Obverse description | Three-quarter facing helmeted head of Athena, turned slightly to the left, wearing an Attic helmet with triple crest and a pearl necklace, rendered in fine late Classical relief. The ethnic legend ΣYPAKOΣ-ION in Greek characters is distributed across the field, divided on either side of the effigy. The modeling of the goddess's features reflects the accomplished engraving tradition of Timoleontic Syracuse. The composition fills the flan with confident, high-quality workmanship characteristic of the period. |
