Obverse description Half-length armored effigy of Duke William Augustus facing right, clad in elaborately decorated plate armor with a lace ruff at the collar, holding a sword hilt in his right hand; to his right, an orb rests on a surface beside him. The portrait is rendered in high relief in the early Baroque style. A circular Latin legend runs along the inner border of the toothed rim, reading WILHELMUS D G DUX BRUNSWICEN ET LUNÆBURGENSIS.
