Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a detailed hammered scene of the Nativity: the Virgin Mary kneels in adoration of the Christ Child lying in a manger, with Saint Joseph standing to the right beside a rustic stable structure and an angel appearing at upper left amid rays of divine light descending from above. The surrounding field between the inner circle and the beaded outer rim bears a German-language legend in Gothic script referencing the biblical narrative, executed in high relief characteristic of mid-seventeenth-century Westphalian hammered coinage.
