| Reverse description | Victory personified seated right upon a cuirass, her wings partially spread behind her, inscribing a votive legend upon a large shield supported by a winged Genius kneeling at left. The composition conveys the dynastic piety and military ambition of the reign. The reverse legend PAX PERPETVA VOT V MVL X is distributed around the field, while the mint mark TES (or TES●) appears in the exergue, identifying the Thessalonica mint. The fine execution of the figures and the clarity of the inscriptions are consistent with the high standard of gold coinage struck at Thessalonica in the 360s AD. |
