| Reverse description | The reverse presents a full-length standing figure of Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban in period military dress, wearing a long coat and flowing wig, his right arm extended and holding a baton or cane in a commanding gesture, with a plan or map draped over his left arm. To the left of the figure, a large schematic plan of one of Vauban's characteristic star-shaped fortifications is rendered in precise geometric detail, filling the upper and left portions of the field. The legend VAUBAN is inscribed in large letters across the lower centre of the field, with the dates 1633 - 1707 below. The engraver's signature F. COURTIADE appears in small letters near the lower right rim. |
