Obverse description Three tiered podium steps form the central design element, each inscribed with one term of the Republican motto: ÉGALITÉ, LIBERTÉ, and FRATERNITÉ. Rising from the podium, a panoramic skyline of Paris is rendered in relief, featuring the Hôtel de Ville, the Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile, the obelisk of the Place de la Concorde, the towers of La Défense, the Eiffel Tower, the Panthéon, and the Pont-Neuf. The face value '1 1/2 EUR' and the legend 'RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE' appear in the field. In the exergue, the logotype of the 9th IAAF World Championships in Athletics and the date '2003' are inscribed.

Reverse description A high-jumper is depicted in mid-flight, arching over the bar using the Fosbury Flop technique, his back parallel to the obstacle as he clears it. The figure is rendered against a stylized background featuring a metal bridge structure and a geometric track pattern, evoking an athletic stadium setting. The single word legend 'SAUTER' (Jump) appears as a caption in the field.
