| Obverse description | The obverse commemorates the centenary of the first French Grand Prix held at Le Mans in 1906. The design is divided into three segments by the three spokes of a stylized automobile steering wheel, within which appear a period racing car from the early twentieth century and two circular instrument gauges evocative of a period dashboard. The legend encircling the design reads RF LE MANS 1906 CENTENAIRE DU 1ER GRAND PRIX DE L'AUTOMOBILE-CLUB DE FRANCE, with the national identifier RF denoting the French Republic. |

The Monnaie de Paris issued a run of Formula 1-themed coins in the mid-2000s under licensing arrangements with the sport's commercial rights holders, a period when Bernie Ecclestone was aggressively monetizing the F1 brand across consumer products. The 1½ euro denomination itself is a French anomaly — used almost exclusively for collector issues where the face value is nominal and the real transaction is the coin as an object.
