Obverse description The obverse depicts the European Union flag displayed on a flagpole, rendered in fine relief against a horizontally lined field. The flag features five prominent five-pointed stars arranged across its surface. To the left of the flagpole, a cluster of smaller stars is arranged in a vertical arc, evoking the EU circle of stars motif. The commemorative dates '1955-2005' arc across the upper portion of the field, flanked by the denomination '1 1/2 EURO' to the right, with the RF mintmark incorporated into the design at the lower left.

Additional information

The 1½ euro denomination was a Monnaie de Paris invention with no practical monetary function — it was created purely for the commemorative market, priced above face value from issue and never intended to circulate. The 2005 European Union Flag series marked the EU's expansion to 25 member states following the 2004 enlargement, the largest single accession in the bloc's history.
