| Obverse description | Imperial crown with cross surmounting the design at top center, beneath which a nine-line Latin inscription fills the field, identifying Joseph as King of Hungary, Bohemia, Hereditary Prince and Archduke of Austria, elected King of the Romans and crowned at Frankfurt on 3 April 1764. The lettering is rendered in bold Roman capitals of varying size, lending the composition a monumental, proclamatory character typical of Habsburg coronation issues. |

| Reverse description | A terrestrial globe resting on clouds occupies the central field, overlaid with crossed sword and scepter entwined with floral branches, symbolizing sovereign power tempered by nature and virtue. Above the globe, a radiant All-Seeing Eye within a triangle emits sunbeams across the upper field, a Masonic and providential emblem widely employed on Habsburg commemorative issues. The circular legend VIRTVTE ET EXEMPLO arcs along the upper periphery in bold Latin capitals, meaning 'By virtue and example.' |
