Obverse description The arms of the Republic of Geneva occupy the central field, depicting a crowned imperial eagle displayed on the dexter half and a key on the sinister half, set within an elaborate baroque cartouche with foliate and scroll ornaments. A radiant sun device appears at the top of the shield. The date 1715 is inscribed in the field flanking the upper portion of the arms, and the engraver's initials I·P·D· appear in the lower field. The circular legend RESPUBLICA GENEVENSIS runs along the periphery in Latin characters.
