Obverse description A reclining river god in high relief, leaning against an overturned urn, is depicted in the left field with reeds rising behind him; to the right a winged griffin stands amid foliage. In the upper field, radiant sunbeams emanate from a central shield bearing the Utrecht coat of arms, symbolising the university. The Latin legend curves along the upper rim.

Reverse description The reverse bears a seven-line Latin inscription in bold capital lettering occupying the central field, recording the munificence of the consuls and senators of Utrecht toward students on the occasion of the first centenary of their academy, dated 27 March 1736. A delicate rococo foliate ornament decorates the space above the inscription, while crossed palm branches appear below.
