| Obverse description | Central device features the crowned White Eagle of Poland, the national arms, displayed with wings raised and head turned to the right, rendered in bold relief against a plain field. The date 1989 is divided on either side of the eagle's lower body, with '19' to the left and '89' to the right. The mint mark appears below the eagle at the base. The denomination '1000' is inscribed in large numerals at the bottom of the field, flanked by the currency abbreviation 'ZŁ' on each side. The circular legend 'POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA' runs along the upper periphery between two raised rims. |

| Reverse description | The reverse presents a right-facing bust portrait of Pope John Paul II in high relief, depicted in papal vestments including a mozetta and clerical collar, set against a finely cross-hatched geometric background pattern that fills the entire field. The portrait is sharply outlined with a raised white-line contour separating it from the textured background. The inscription 'JAN PAWEŁ II' is engraved vertically along the left side of the field, with the word 'PRÓBA' (meaning 'trial' or 'pattern') inscribed below it, identifying this piece as a trial strike. The overall composition is modern and graphic in style, characteristic of late Polish People's Republic commemorative coinage. |
