Reverse description Two roosters are depicted in a naturalistic composition inspired by traditional Chinese brush painting, after the style of Qi Baishi. A proud cockerel stands atop a rugged rock formation in the upper centre of the field, its elaborate tail plumage sweeping upward, while a second rooster forages at the base of the rocks in the lower left. Sparse foliage accents the composition. To the upper left appears the cyclical character 癸酉, denoting the Chinese year of the Rooster, and a vertical artistic inscription 齐白石补石 appears to the right. The denomination 1000元 is inscribed in bold characters to the left of the central design.
