The 1000 Yuan note was introduced in 1999 as part of a broader security upgrade for Taiwan's high-denomination paper. The "without holographic strip" designation is the key distinction here: early production runs of the series lacked the foil hologram that was incorporated into later printings, making this variant the first-issue type. The Central Engraving and Printing Plant has produced Taiwan's currency continuously since the KMT government relocated to the island following the mainland's fall in 1949, giving the facility an unbroken institutional history that few national printers can match.

Collectors should note that the two variants — with and without hologram — are frequently conflated in general holdings.
