The Bank of Central China (中央银行 zhōngyāng yínháng is distinct from the Nationalist Central Bank of China — this was a Communist-administered regional bank operating in the Liberated Areas of central China during the final phase of the civil war. Notes like this 1000 Yuan were issued as the People's Liberation Army consolidated control over Hubei, Hunan, and Henan, functioning as a transitional monetary instrument ahead of the establishment of the People's Bank of China in December 1948.

High denominations in this series reflect severe inflation plaguing both Nationalist and Communist-administered zones by 1948. The note's regional circulation was short — once the renminbi was introduced, conversion campaigns moved quickly to withdraw these issues.
