Obverse description Central device features a finely detailed high-relief depiction of Mount Fuji, its snow-capped volcanic peak rendered with textured striations rising prominently from the field. Flanking the mountain on both sides are large, naturalistically rendered sprays of cherry blossoms (sakura) with open five-petaled flowers, buds, and leaves. The country name legend 日本国 (Nihon-koku, State of Japan) arcs across the upper field in bold Kanji characters, while the denomination 千円 (Sen En, 1000 Yen) is inscribed in two large Kanji characters at the lower field. The entire design is contained within a beaded inner border.
