Obverse description Bust of Okuma Shigenobu, statesman and founder of Waseda University, facing three-quarters left in formal Western attire with bow tie, occupying the right portion of the field. To his left, a colorized Imari-Arita porcelain motif is depicted, featuring a brilliantly polychrome bird in flight accompanied by floral sprigs and foliate elements rendered in the characteristic cobalt blue, red, and gold palette of the tradition. The legend 日本国 (Japan) is inscribed along the upper rim, with 佐賀県 (Saga Prefecture) and SAGA below at left, and 千円 (1000 Yen) at the lower right.
