Obverse description Central field features a full-color polychromatic depiction of the Kappa Bridge (Kappabashi) suspension bridge spanning a river in the Kamikochi highland valley, with the snow-capped peaks of the Northern Japan Alps (Hotaka mountain range) rising dramatically in the background beneath a deep blue sky. Lush green trees frame the left side of the composition. The legend 日本国 (State of Japan) is inscribed along the upper arc of the field, while 長野県 and NAGANO appear to the right of center, and the denomination 千円 is inscribed at the lower left. The design employs vivid color printing technique against a proof mirror-finish background.
