Additional information

Part of Japan's 47 Prefectures Coin Program, launched in 2008 to issue commemorative coins for each of Japan's prefectures in sequence. Miyazaki Prefecture, on the southeastern coast of Kyushu, was assigned its slot in the fourth series of the program. The coins were sold directly through Japan Post in limited subscription lots, meaning most examples never entered general circulation and passed straight from mint packaging into collections.

Striking quality on this series is consistently high — a function of the controlled distribution model rather than any special production designation.
