Obverse description Central design depicts the ancient Jōmon Sugi cedar tree, a celebrated natural monument of Yakushima Island, rendered with colorized foliage in its natural hues. Mt. Nagatadake rises in the background, while Yakushima rhododendron blossoms are featured in the lower field, also colorized. The prefecture name and coin value appear as inscriptions surrounding the central motif, with the national name in kanji at the top of the field. The overall composition celebrates the natural heritage of Kagoshima Prefecture, part of Japan's 47-prefecture commemorative series.
