Obverse description Central field depicts two winter sports athletes in dynamic action: a downhill skier in full racing posture occupying the upper portion of the field, and a speed skater in a low gliding stance in the lower portion, both rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished background accented with stylized snowflake motifs. The authority legend 日本国 (State of Japan) is inscribed in Japanese characters, with 日 and 国 flanking the upper field on either side.
