Slovenia's tolar series was always intended to be transitional — the country targeted euro adoption from early in its independence, and this 2003-dated 1000 tolar note was among the final issues before the tolar was retired when Slovenia became the first former Yugoslav republic to join the eurozone on 1 January 2007. The "European Union Entry" designation marks Slovenia's accession to the EU in May 2004, not the currency switch itself.
The printed date 30.04.1945 refers to a historical commemoration incorporated into the design concept, connecting the note's symbolism to the liberation period ending World War II in Slovenia.
