| Reverse description | Central field features a precise rendition of Leonardo da Vinci's celebrated 'Vitruvian Man' drawing, depicting the idealized human figure simultaneously inscribed within a circle and a square, rendered in fine engraved detail. The legend 'LEONARDO DA VINCI' is inscribed in Latin capitals along the upper periphery, with his birth and death years '1452–1519' immediately below. The date of issue '1999' appears in the lower field beneath the central motif. The composition is framed by a plain inner border with a reeded outer edge, giving the reverse a clean, classical appearance consistent with commemorative proof coinage. |

Part of a wave of Mongolian commemorative gold issues produced in the late 1990s, when the Bank of Mongolia aggressively entered the collector coin market through partnerships with European minting and marketing firms — a revenue strategy common among smaller nations with limited hard currency reserves. The actual striking was contracted out, almost certainly to a European facility, as Mongolia had no domestic capacity for fine gold coinage at that scale.
At 1.24 g of .9999 gold, this is a fractional piece sized to the 1/25 oz market.
