Issued to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War — the Soviet designation for the Eastern Front conflict of 1941–1945 — this coin reflects Kazakhstan's deep institutional investment in that commemoration. The republic lost an estimated 600,000 soldiers during the war, drawn from a total population of roughly 6 million at the time, a proportional toll among the highest of any Soviet republic.
