| Obverse description | Bimetallic coin featuring a right-facing portrait bust of Eugenio Espejo, the prominent Ecuadorian physician and independence precursor, rendered in high relief within the aluminium bronze centre. The name EUGENIO ESPEJO is inscribed in small lettering to the left of the portrait within the inner disc. The copper-nickel outer ring bears the legend BANCO CENTRAL DEL ECUADOR along the upper arc, with the commemorative dates 1927 - 1997 displayed along the lower arc, flanked by decorative dots, marking the 70th anniversary of the institution's founding. |
