Obverse description The obverse displays the arms of Uganda centrally in the field, comprising a shield supported by a kob antelope to the left and a crested crane to the right, with a drum and traditional spear crossed behind the shield, and a sun motif at its centre. A ribbon at the base of the arms bears the national motto FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY. The legend BANK OF UGANDA arcs along the upper periphery, with the date split as 19 and 96 flanking the arms at mid-field, and the denomination 1000 SHILLINGS inscribed along the lower periphery. The coin is struck in milled copper-nickel with a reeded edge and beaded inner border.
