Issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the United Nations, this coin was part of a wave of commemorative pieces produced by smaller member states in 1995 — many sharing identical specifications and contracted to the same overseas mints. Uganda's piece was almost certainly struck by a European contractor rather than domestically, as the Bank of Uganda had no facility capable of producing coinage at this diameter and weight in quantity.
