| Additional information |
Uganda issued a series of silver and base-metal pieces in the early 1990s under a broader program of topographic commemoratives that had little connection to Ugandan geography or history — the Matterhorn sits on the Swiss-Italian border, roughly 5,000 kilometers from Kampala. These were produced primarily for the European collector market, a common arrangement in which smaller central banks lent their issuing authority to foreign minting operations in exchange for a modest licensing return.
