Uganda's wildlife coinage from this period was produced largely for the collector export market, with little connection to domestic circulation. The "Black fish" designation almost certainly refers to a species endemic to Lake Victoria, which by 2002 was already under severe ecological pressure — the Nile perch introduction of the 1950s had driven dozens of native cichlid species to extinction or near-extinction, making any commemorative aquatic issue from this moment quietly pointed.
