Issued to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the 1952 Colombo Plan agreement between Japan and Sri Lanka, this coin reflects a diplomatic relationship that had been unusually cordial since Japan's 1951 San Francisco Peace Treaty — Ceylon was one of the few nations to waive war reparations entirely, a gesture Prime Minister Dudley Senanayake framed as Buddhist principle rather than political calculation.
