| Obverse description | The national emblem of Sri Lanka — a golden lion passant upon a crimson background within a circular border of petals, surmounted by the Dhamma Chakra and flanked by petals of the blue lotus, the national flower — is depicted centrally in the upper field. The country name appears in arc above the emblem in Sinhala script, while the legends 'SRI LANKA' in Latin script and the Tamil equivalent arc along the left and right rims respectively.
