| Obverse description | Intaglio portrait of Sir Charles Gaëtan Duval QC (1930–1996) occupies the left half of the note against a multicolour guilloche underprint with ornate rosette patterns in orange and red. The bank title BANK OF MAURITIUS and the denomination Rs 1000 appear at the top in bold letterpress, with the legal tender clause and denomination spelled out in English, Tamil, and Hindi in the centre field. A holographic patch to the upper right carries an image of a temple tower, while a vignette of the figure of Justice and the Mauritian coat of arms appear to the right, accompanied by three signature lines labelled First Deputy Governor, Governor, and Second Deputy Governor with the issue year below. |
