| Additional information |
The Gangut series commemorates Russia's naval victory at Cape Gangut in August 1714 — the first major fleet action won by the Russian Imperial Navy, and Peter the Great's personal tactical triumph over a Swedish squadron during the Great Northern War. Peter commanded the engagement himself, leading a galley assault that captured the Swedish rear-guard under Rear Admiral Ehrenskiöld.
The Bank of Russia has returned to this battle repeatedly across multiple issues and denominations, making it one of the more extensively documented commemorative programs in the post-Soviet series.
