The Vsevelikoye Voysko Donskoye — the "Great Host of the Don" — issued its own currency throughout the Civil War period as part of a broader assertion of administrative independence from both Bolshevik Moscow and the White Army command structure it nominally supported. By 1919, the Don government under Ataman Bogaevsky was printing notes in increasingly large denominations to cover military expenditures and a collapsing regional economy.
The handstamp security feature on this series is often found poorly struck or partially legible — a known characteristic, not damage. Forgeries circulated during the period, which prompted the authentication stamps in the first place.
