| Additional information |
Transnistria's commemorative gold program of the mid-2000s was produced under the Transnistrian Republican Bank, an institution recognized by no sovereign state — Transnistria itself remains unrecognized internationally, a breakaway territory that declared independence from Moldova in 1990 following a brief armed conflict along the Dniester River. The Cathedral of the Archangel Michael in Rybnitsa, the issuing authority's second-largest city, is one of the few ecclesiastical landmarks in a region where Orthodox church infrastructure was systematically suppressed during the Soviet period and only rebuilt after 1991.
