Obverse description Central field displays the Russian Federation state emblem: a double-headed eagle with wings displayed, holding an orb in the left talon and a sceptre in the right, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished background. A beaded inner border frames the design. The denomination '1000 РУБЛЕЙ' is inscribed along the upper arc and the date '1997 г.' follows, while 'БАНК РОССИИ' (Bank of Russia) curves along the lower arc. Flanking the eagle at either side are two small decorative square mintmark devices, with the Moscow Mint monogram and the fineness mark 'Au 999' and weight '155,5' also present in small characters near the base of the eagle.
