Obverse description Central crowned Portuguese royal arms shield, displaying the traditional quartered escutcheon with castles and roundels, surmounted by a royal crown. The denomination '1000' appears to the left of the shield in the field, flanked on either side by four-petalled floral ornaments (trefoils). The circular legend runs along the upper periphery, interrupted by the crown at apex. The entire design is rendered in a precise milled style characteristic of late 18th-century Lisbonite coinage.
