Obverse description The Bank of Ghana building vignette appears at lower right, rendered in fine intaglio engraving. At upper centre, the Bank of Ghana name is set in ornate calligraphic script flanked by a star-shaped Bank of Ghana seal at upper right and the serial number at upper left. The statutory authority legend and denomination £1000 in large calligraphic numerals appear at lower left, with place and date of issue reading ACCRA, 1st July, 1958 at centre right, above two manuscript signatures for the Director and Governor.

Reverse description The reverse is dominated by an elaborate symmetrical guilloche composition in dark purple-brown ink, with large interlocking rosette medallions at the four corners and sweeping scrollwork filling the central field. The denomination £1000 is inscribed in calligraphic script at the top centre, rising above the ornate underprint. The overall design is entirely abstract and decorative, relying solely on fine lathe-work patterns with no pictorial vignette.
