Obverse description The national coat of arms of Uruguay occupies the central field, depicting a quartered oval shield bearing scales of justice, a fortified hill, a horse, and an ox, surmounted by a radiant sun. The shield is flanked by laurel and olive branches tied at the base. The circular legend REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY runs along the upper periphery, while the date 2004 appears in the lower exergue, flanked by decorative dot borders. The design is rendered in high relief with a mirror-polished proof finish.
