Additional information

Western Sahara has no functioning independent mint and no internationally recognized sovereign currency — coins attributed to it are produced by private minting houses, typically in Europe, and sold directly into the collector market. The "issuing authority" is nominally the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, a government-in-exile recognized by the African Union but not by the UN or most major powers. KM#55 sits within a flood of 1990s sports-themed issues from this attribution, most struck around the 1996 Atlanta and 1998 Nagano cycles.

These pieces never circulated. None ever could.
