Obverse description The obverse is centred on the Nationalist-era Coat of Arms of Spain rendered as an underprint, overlaid with the bank title "EL BANCO DE ESPAÑA" and the denomination "MIL PESETAS" in bold intaglio lettering. An elaborate guilloche border frames the note on all four sides, with the numeral "1000" repeated vertically in the lateral margins. The place and date of issue, "BURGOS, 20 DE MAYO DE 1938", appear in the lower field, accompanied by three manuscript signatures for the Governor, Auditor, and Cashier.

Reverse description The reverse is dominated by a full-width intaglio engraving after César Álvarez Dumont's painting "Heroic Combat in the Pulpit of the Church of San Agustín de Zaragoza during the Second Siege of 1809", a work held in the Museo del Prado, Madrid. The densely worked battle scene occupies the entire central field, conveying the patriotic iconography characteristic of this Nationalist wartime issue. The bank name is inscribed in the upper margin and the denomination in the lower margin.
